Landamæravöktun TF-SIF í Grikklandi lokið.

Verkefni eftirlitsflugvélar Landhelgisgæslunnar TF-SIF á vegum Frontex, landamærastofnunar Evrópusambandsins, á Eyjahafi er nú lokið. Fjölmargar þjóðir taka þátt Í þessu svæðisbundna verkefni, má þar nefna Búlgaríu, Lettland, Ísland, Rúmeníu, Poland, Lítháen, Finnland og Frakkland. Að sögn Frontex skipti flugvél landhelgisgæslunnar og áhöfn hennar sköpum í verkefninu þar sem nokkrir smábátar með um hundrað flóttamönnum, voru greindir í eftirlitsbúnaði flugvélarinnar á hafsvæðinu milli Tyrklands og Grikklands.

Myndin hér að neðan var tekin þegar fjórir fulltrúar luku þátttöku sinni í verkefninu hjá Alþjóðlegri samhæfingarmiðstöð Frontex í aðalstöðvum Grísku strandgæslunnar. Snorre Greil, fulltrúi Landhelgisgæslunnar tók á móti skildi fyrir hönd íslensku áhafnarinnar. Hafa nú önnur lönd og tæki þeirra tekið við svæðisbundinni verkefnavinnu hjá Frontex.

Deployment of the Icelandic airplane to Frontex at the Greek-Turkeys border has been closed. In this regional operation a number of countries take part. Besides Bulgaria, Latvia, Iceland and Romania, see picture, takes part among other countries Poland, Lithuania, Finland and France.

The Icelandic airplane and its crew made a difference in the operation when they played a prominent part in several incidents with more than a hundred migrants involved. The picture was taken when four representatives were terminating their deployment in the Frontex International Coordination Center inside the headquarters of the Hellenic Coast Guard. Snorre Greil, the Icelandic representative, received a shield on behalf of the crew of the Icelandic Airplane.

While the Icelandic airplane has headed home with other tasks waiting, other countries and assets continue this regional Frontex operation.
