The vessel has proven to be excellent for near shore hydrographic surveying, surveillance, law enforcement, training, and various other tasks that the ICG undertakes. Baldur is especially equipped for hydrographic surveying for nautical charting. Among other things, the vessel is equipped with a multi-beam echo sounder and positioning system to meet international requirements for depth surveying for nautical chart production.
